A work in progress...

For the past few weeks I have been working on updating my scrapbook room.  I had been looking for fun ideas on Pinterest and there are still a few more projects I will be adding as time allows.  I will be sure to share here as I keep adding things.

I am sharing on the Moxie Fab blog along with a lot of other great scrapbook rooms.  If you are looking to update your creative space check it out.  You will likely find a LOT of great ideas for any size of space.

Here is what it looked like BEFORE (pictures taken about a year ago when we moved in):

The walls were a tan color and my storage boxes were red.

A side note about my furniture...my husband's company was redecorating the executive offices and were selling all the old furniture.  We got a GREAT deal on the credenza, oval desk, credenza and top shelf and the two cabinets on either side.  They are solid and VERY heavy.  So needless to say, I didn't move some of the pieces and just painted around them.  I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon and there is no other way to arrange the room, so I am pretty sure nobody would even know (except that I am telling you now).  Sorry for all you OCD folks out there that this will bother.  LOL!

Hope helped me do some painting too.

And here is the AFTER:

The walls are now a nice soft blue, with glitter sparkles in it.  :)  My accent colors are a coral color.  I originally wanted to have someone make wooden boxes and add knobs to the front so I could pull them out, but I found a lighter version.  I ended up buying paper mache boxes for three of my storage containers, but the spacing didn't quite work out to add two more...SO I ended up painting the canvas storage boxes I already had been using.  As you can see above, they were red.  I painted two thick layers of Gesso onto the red canvas boxes.  When I thought I was going to use wood I had purchased a sample bottle of the coral accent color with my wall paint.  So I painted the boxes with latex wall paint.  I was amazed at how good they turned out.

Of course I added my bottle collection back to the top with a few extra pieces for pops of color.  I will admit that I considered painting the furniture too, but I just wasn't up to the task of all that work.  Maybe in the future.  For now, the wall color change really brightened things up.

For some reason, this wall was difficult to get a good (color) photo.  This was an idea I saw on Pinterest.  I wanted a place to hang my layouts that I have recently completed.  I can switch them out whenever I want to.  I might even take out Christmas's past during the winter, etc.  Joe purchased a cedar board and we hung photo wire across and I just used small clips to hang my layouts.  One idea I have is to make a creative banner to hang above the board.

I am excited to have my sewing machine set up to use.  It had been in there the past year, but the table was sideways because the credenza was over too far.  When we put the furniture back I made sure there was enough room to put the sewing table the correct way.  YEAH!

This is one of my favorite touches so far.  I covered all the visible light and outlet plates with glitter.  It was pretty easy.  I painted the plates with mod podge and while wet, covered with Martha Steward fine glitter.  I let it dry overnight and put on a second coat of mod podge and glitter.  After drying one more  night I added a coat of mod podge to seal the glitter so it wouldn't flake off.  DONE!

I am still in search of a chandelier to replace the existing ceiling light.  I am looking forward to finding just the right piece for my room.  The rest of my house is not "girly" at all, so I had to go a little overboard in MY room.  :)

I also want to get some shelving in my walk in closet (yep my scrapbook room also has one of those for MORE storage of stuff) so I have a good and sturdy place for all my albums.  Right now they are just sitting on two old end tables Joe had in his first house.  LOL!  Someday!  As I said, it is a work in progress...

Well, I will wrap up this post with some fun creative cards...Enjoy!

Happy Belated Father's Day!

Yep, I am just a bit behind on a LOT of things in life, but that is just how it goes sometimes.

Poor Joe didn't get much of a Father's Day this year.  I ended up being sick and slept all day long.  I didn't even feel good enough to go downstairs to get the card I made.  I guess he will have to see it on here and know while I slept I was thinking of him all day and what a great DAD he is to Hope.  :)

Earlier this year we ordered some fresh beef from a neighbor.  She always slices up one of the roasts and makes beef jerky.  So I had the idea to get Joe a food dehydrator so he could make his own jerky too.  Hope is excited about making her own fruit snacks too.

I have been so busy I never did share photos from dance recital, which was almost a month ago.  LOL!  Long story short...I survived being a back stage mom and got some fun pictures I likely wouldn't have gotten had Hope not volunteered me to help.  :)

That doesn't mean I will willingly do it again next year.

Hip Hop class and their teacher.

There was a tv set up in the back stage basement area so the kids could watch the rest of the show.

This was the student helper in Hope's combo (ballet/tap) class.

I will have to admit I wasn't sure I would like watching the dance from the side stage, but it was kind of fun being with them just before they went on stage.  I wonder what was going through her head, was she nervous????  I know I was.  LOL!

Here is Hope and her combo class with their teacher.

Here she is about to go on for her last dance.

And when we got home...she crashed!  So we just laid her flowers down on the floor with her.  LOL!

Since I started out on a Father's Day theme, I will share some of the cards I made celebrating DADS!

Hopefully this weekend I will snap a few photos of my updated scrapbook room.  It is still a work in progress with several other projects I have in mind, but those are just "extras" when I get to them now.

Until next time...

The Neighborhood Camping Adventure!!!

So my neighbor had this idea for all the kids to have an overnight camping sleepover in their back yard.  It sounded fun, so we quickly made some plan, which we were sure to emphasize it would be the men sleeping with the kids in the tent in the back yard.  LOL!

Well we set the date for Saturday night and watched the weather forecast all week.  It rained for several hours Saturday morning into the afternoon, so we decided to postpone until the ground wasn't so soggy.  BUT we did decide to go ahead and grill out together since we had all the food bought already.

Taylor tried to sneak a beef jerky snack for her own.  LOL!

Hope also made her snow cones for the kids and was selling her most recent rainbow band creations.

Well, as the afternoon went on we decided the upper level of the yard was dry enough to put the tent up, so the camp out was back on!!!!!

Just as the guys were finishing up, this dark cloud developed right over our neighborhood.  We stuck it out and it ended up just barely sprinkling.  Whew! Party on!

We did sparklers!

And of course, what camping adventure would be complete without almost EVERY kid (poor Hope didn't have one of her own) with an electronic device.  LOL!  They sure were roughing it!

Several left the tent early in the evening, but over half of them made it all night!  They asked this morning when the next one was going to be.  Maybe we will finish up summer with another campout.

Since I last posted Hope also finished up third grade.  Here is the bus gang on the last day of school.

Hope and I also planted flowers out front and created our fairy garden.  I need to add some more ground cover so the dirt doesn't splatter all over when it rains.

I missed several other things along the way that I will try and come back and chronicle here...like dance recital.  I was so tired from being a back stage mom that I think I wanted to black out the memory from my mind.  LOL!  Just kidding, it wasn't that bad, so I will share here next time (unless something really exciting happens between now and then).

Anyway, here are some fun graduation themed cards to share with you tonight!  Congrats to all the graduates!

Until next time...
